Why Online Shopping Is Making a Trend?
It seems everyone loves online deals, online discounts, online coupons and more! Millions of people are patiently browsing the web in search for the best online deals of the day and the best online discount websites. A realization settled in me then that in tough economic times, people become wiser. That somehow propelled consumers to browse for the best deals on the web. Life is now highly digitalized! Thus, online shopping and online coupon are now very popular and certainly a trend for years to come.Moms, budget enthusiasts, frugal people or shall I say wise consumers just canââ¬â¢t resist the convenience online coupons and online deals can offer. You canââ¬â¢t blame shoppers to find the best deals and eye-popping discount prices to maximize savings by going through the best online deal websites. Take ShopAtHome for instance, it provides online shoppers the best deals, best products with the best price with just a few clicks. The most amazing part of it, is its cash back prog ram where you can get as much as 50 percent of the price credited to your account which enable you to buy more needed items. Now who wouldnââ¬â¢t love deep discounts made possible by ShopAtHome and other online discount websites? Through them you can freely access catalogs, do comparison shopping, cash-back, exclusive daily deals from online retailers. Plus free shipping is recently a trend too.Coupons decline for almost a couple of decades and has just come back on track in 2009 which also mark the first year of coupon boom. Sometimes, things happen for a reason. The significant shift of the consumers shopping trend is undoubtedly caused by the the current economic status. People now opt to use the internet to find the hottest deals, online discounts, online coupons which also provide shoppers the best place to buy, how they buy and take advantage of promotions.

Boy Cry
In his telling novel, Real Boys, William S. Pollack spends much of the work making a strong social commentary on some of the issues and problems associated with growing up. For the author, growing up is something that has gotten more and more difficult over the years and certain problems must be handled by society. The book succinctly discusses the various roles that educators, parents, friends, and society plays in raising a child to be a man. It discusses what can be done on both an individual level and a parental level, while addressing how children respond to different motivations from the outside. The impressiveness of raising these important social questions is bested only by this bookââ¬â¢s ability to answer those questions. The most important aspect of young male development to the author is the context in which a boy is raised. By this, it means that a boy in North America has a hard time coming to a firm understanding of both who he is and who he is supposed to become. Th e book talks at length about the many ââ¬Å"codesâ⬠by which a boy is required to live in the United States. Instead of being able to find himself within the context of his life, a boy must adhere to a double set of social standards. In addition to adhering to new age principles, boys must do their best to uphold the long standing male tradition of being ââ¬Å"toughâ⬠and being ââ¬Å"manlyâ⬠. As Pollack shows with his real life examples, this type of pressure does not allow a boy to realize the proper context. This is important because it eventually stunts development and, according to the author, can lead to some very serious consequences. Among those are drug use, violence, learning disabilities, and psychological disorders. The author makes the point to state some solutions for these problems, instead of focusing solely on the problems. That is one of the important and interesting aspects of the book. One of the solutions has to do with a likely source in a boyâ⠬â¢s development. According to the author, parents have to play a pivotal role in a childââ¬â¢s development if that child is going to become a success in society. This is where the idea of parental gatekeeping comes into play. Parents must not only do what they can to raise a child financially and physically, but they must also make a commitment to raising the childââ¬â¢s psyche. This does not mean that parents are always supposed to be the childââ¬â¢s biggest fan, nor are they to be his biggest detractor. In order for a boy to eventually grow into a man, the parents have to be something of a middle man in this. They must let enough good in to encourage the boy in his development, while keeping him grounded enough to stay on the right track. This is a slippery slope, but one that parents must tread down if they want to raise a boy properly. Another neat thing in the book is that the author takes the time to not only address widespread developmental issues in regards to boy s, but also to address specific problems that stand in the way in todayââ¬â¢s society.Among those are some touchy topics that most parents and all schools have trouble dealing with. Though it might seem like a small thing on the surface, the author makes sure to mention that one of the biggest developmental problems facing boys in American society is friendlessness. Though it is not something that affects all children, it has an impact on a significant number of individuals. As such, there are lots of boys who grow up through elementary and middle school without knowing what it is like to have a friend. This affects boys in a couple of different ways. For one, they struggle with confidence issues as all of the individuals around them thrive. In addition, they miss out on learning some of the important things that go along with friendship. They do not learn how to handle their emotions or work with other human beings to figure out interpersonal problems. These things might seem min or to some, but to the author, they are huge stumbling blocks that society has failed to take down. In the book, the author does not speak in pure generalities.Though he makes several general points that can be applied to boys across the board, his primary objective is to identify specific problems that have specific solutions. When addressing the problems of boys, he spends a great deal of time and energy breaking down the problems that exist in schools when it comes to development of boys. Above all of the other parties responsible for raising boys to be men, he feels that schools have the great influence and thus, are doing the worst job at this point. In the book, he mentions some specific ways that parents must feel that their kids are being wronged. In his book, Pollack makes mention of some of the questions that parents must ask when he writes (1999), ââ¬Å"Do the schoolââ¬â¢s teachers and administrators know about the boy code? Do they understand the mask? Are they sympat hetic to boys? Does the school teach subject matters and use classroom materials that interest my boy? â⬠(p. 231). The author goes on to discuss that the answer to these questions is, all too often, no. The author places a significant amount of focus on the job that teachers and administrators are doing within the schools. In addition to not being well equipped to handle the emotional rigors that boys go through during their developmental years, schools are having a hard time zeroing in on the academic problems that boys are facing. The author specifically mentions the subjects of reading and writing as weak areas for boys, and goes on to talk about how school administrators are not doing enough to catch these problems and work to improve them. Because schools are not noticing academic issues at the beginning, boys are being allowed to struggle their way through school. This is one of the primary reasons why boys struggle on the outside of school. With their self-esteem shot and their confidence destroyed by problems within school, they are forced to then face their own development in a world that is becoming tougher and tougher on people their age. Fundamental problems, according to the author, are causing even great consequences on the outside of schools. All in all, the book is an excellent commentary on the many problems that young men face in a changing world. Getting from boyhood to manhood used to be easy, but now it is more of a challenge.Unfortunately, the world has not accommodated for the extra challenge, so boys are expected to handle their issues with the greatest of ease and the greatest of strength. That, in effect, is the message of the book. According to Pollack, parents, teachers, school administrators, and society at large is failing the young male population in North America. Until more is done to correct the problem, more and more young boys will find drugs, violence, and a handful of other issues to fill their plate in lieu of their o verriding issues. Criminal Justices Ethics Essay
A few months ago, a woman was brutally raped, beaten and left for dead. Since the attack she remains in a coma. This case has risen to national prominence as an example of how todayââ¬â¢s youth no longer respects fundamental social values, television and video game violence has desensitized young men to the consequences of crimes such as assault and rape, and as a demonstration of the inability of the police to keep the streets safe for law-abiding citizens. My partner and I work in the criminal justice system as police officers and handle most of the homicide cases in our area. The publicity from this crime has placed our police department under pressure to send someone to trial for this crime immediately. A gang of young men were spotted in the areas where the victim was found assaulting and threatening people that were passing by. Two members of the gang were arrested. The two members are both male and 14 years of age that both have previous records of robbery and assault. Our obligation as police officers is to follow the policy and ethical standards of our police department and the law, which states, minors must be informed of their legal right to have their parents present during the interrogation and to use videotape during important interviews. However, my partner has pushed his ethical obligation aside and interviews both of the minors while deciding not to contact their parents or tape the interrogation. When I confront him about the policyââ¬â¢s that did not take place he tells me not to worry about it that both minors are guilty as sin and we can close the case. His actions are unethical and donââ¬â¢t not follow the policy of prosecuting the guilty, respecting the rights of the accused, and creating a safe community. Ethics is crucial in decisions involving discretion, force, and due process, because criminal justice professionals can be tempted to abuse their powers (Felkins, 1987). I report this to my supervisor only for him to tell me to trust my partner and go to trial. Both suspects are arrested and bound for trial. Bail is denied. I do not feel good about proceeding with this. The organizational culture represented by my supervisor gives the answer to my partnersââ¬â¢ behavior. The supervisor plays a large role in defining organizational culture by his actions and leadership. Both my supervisor and my partner have decided to use ââ¬Å"moral relativismâ⬠which is the ethical premise ââ¬Å"that decisions about right and wrong are purely personal and subjective and according to it, whatever anyone claims to be morally acceptable is morally acceptable, at least for that person. They have not thought about the consequences of their actions and how they may be beneficial or harmful from the result. In order to do so one must analyze the issues and make judgments by studying the details of the case, identifying the relevant criteria, determining possible course of action, and deciding which action is most ethical. I will choose to detach myself from the case. I cannot afford to lose my job by not following the legal or ethical standards. Laws have penalties when cases are violated and these penalties can be very severe if you violate legal norms. I believe that both my partner and supervisor have violated legal norms as well as ethical standards. References Felkenes, G. My Progress in Writing
My Progress in Writing As a non-native speaker who immigrated to the U. S. two years ago, English is a big obstacle for me in communication. I have had many difficult times speaking and understanding English when talking to others. Writing an essay was almost impossible for me to think of. Realizing how difficult it was to experience these linguistic difficulties, I then decided to go back to school to improve my English skills. Therefore, English became especially essential for me to succeed in my educational goals. I was determined to earn an Associateââ¬â¢s degree then transfer to a university for a Bachelorââ¬â¢s degree.I started going to ESL classes and studied English very hard to make progress in my speaking, reading and writing skills. After spending one year in ESL classes, I qualified for English 43. I learned lots of grammar and how to write paragraphs efficiently during these classes. I noticed that writing an essay was more challenging when I got into English 49. H owever, since then Iââ¬â¢ve learned how to write a five-paragraph argumentative essay which was one of my weaknesses in academic writings. I have made a lot of progress in writing skills since I started studying English 49.I now think that Iââ¬â¢m ready to go on to English 101 due to the fact that I have learned useful strategies to follow a writing process and develop coherent paragraphs effectively. A writing process is the most important step that I learned in this class. First of all, before writing a complete essay, I need to come up with the pre-writing which consists of free writing and brainstorming. I found this step essential because free writing helps me find as many supports and examples as possible and brainstorming allows me to organize and strengthen the structure of the essay. Moreover, writing everything related to the topic during prewriting steps helps me find more supporting details to put into the next step. I then use the step of brainstorming to map main ideas for an essayââ¬â¢s body and help myself avoid skipping and putting my ideas disorderly in each paragraph. The next important step of a writing process is an essay outline which is a most valuable way to form and develop the structure of my essays. This step allows me to list all the required information I plan to include in my essay. In fact, preparing an outline essay is very important to organize all of my thoughts in terms of major and inor details to support the central points of my thesis. I also noticed that a strong outline essay makes a solid essay because it helps me build the structure of my paper and its logical flow. A writing process is completely new to me because I had never learned this skill in my country. Nevertheless, I found this step to be helpful for me all the time before I start writing thorough essays. My scores were also significantly improved after I learned those steps in a writing process. Throughout this class Iââ¬â¢ve learned useful strateg ies such as how to structure a five-paragraph essay and develop coherent paragraphs effectively. At first, I had no idea what a thesis statement was because the introduction is like a hook and there is no thesis as I learned in my country. Since I got into English 49, Iââ¬â¢ve learned how to make a strong and clear thesis statement at the end of introduction paragraphs, that is, to inform the readers of three main points that need to be addressed to write the entire essay. Because English 49 requires me to create specific argumentative essays, the readers must expect to see clear major points of thesis statement from my position.Consequently, I did a really good job on coming up with a clear thesis as I made in my revised argumentative essay and writerââ¬â¢s choice in the portfolio. In addition to organizing and developing effective paragraphs, I learned that introduction and conclusion paragraphs play a special role in my essay, and they usually demand much of my attention as a writer. A good introduction has to identify the topic and provide essential context, and needs to engage the readersââ¬â¢ interest while a strong conclusion helps me reflect and restate the significance of what Iââ¬â¢ve written by using my critical thinking. The second and third essays I included in my portfolio, for example, can demonstrate the huge progress Iââ¬â¢ve made. In these two essays, I came up with interesting statistics and my background information in introductions to illustrate the seriousness of the issue I discussed. Additionally, at the conclusions, I broadened my central ideas and tried to convey my closing thoughts about the larger implications of my whole argument. Another strategy that I learned to develop body paragraphs effectively was to use topic sentences at the beginning of paragraphs.By using a topic sentence, I can state my central points in each paragraph explicitly as a map for my ideas to guide readers through my reasoning. This was a most u seful skill I learned in this class because I noticed that topic sentences serve as a mini-thesis for paragraphs and help readers follow along my logical ideas easily. Back to the time when I first came to the U. S. , I had so many problems with essay writing. I now feel much better since I have made a huge improvement of organizing and developing essays in a structured way. Finally, the wonderful strategy I enjoy studying in English 49 is learning how to use sources to support my ideas and strengthen effective discussion of my points in each paragraph. The main goal of my essays is always to make sure readers clearly follow the topic and my major points throughout essays. Knowing how to use various sources, such as examples, researched evidence, statistics and quotes is the most powerful tool that helps me greatly enhance my academic writing skills. Reading through my third essay, ââ¬Å"Are Human Activities Contributing to Climate Change ? , you could see that Iââ¬â¢ve shown pro of by integrating facts, concrete supports, statistics and factual details into each body paragraph to support my argument. However, being aware of how not to plagiarize is highly important for me when using sources. In this essay, there are a variety of ways Iââ¬â¢ve learned how to introduce my sources to avoid plagiarism when I integrate quotations into my essay. I finally learned how to let readers know exactly where I found the sources for the quotations. As a non-native speaker who has been through ESL classes to English 49, I found that learning English is more interesting. English 49, in my opinion, has not only helped me build up and enhance my academic writing skills, but also gave me more opportunities to broaden my knowledge by researching, reading and writing on a variety of different topics . Despite the fact that English 101 will be much more challenging for me than this course, the obstacles of academic writing skills will inspire me to work harder to achieve succes s.

Questions 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Questions 2 - Essay Example It is the question of what could be done IF something else was to precipitate the exercise of power. Potential for power is arguably the most impactful on employees. If a specific individual determines that there is no further potential for advancement (power), i.e., they are topped out at their current level with a particular company, they are not likely to show initiative or even necessarily dedication to the position. Conversely, if there is a potential for gaining power, most employees are incentivized to do whatever is necessary to realize that potential. 2. Discuss positive and negative examples from your own work experience regarding political power bases in organizations. Also, address areas regarding the use of decision-making or the lack of it in organizations. I have seen both the positive and the negative side of political power in companies for whom I have worked. In one situation, the power of the company was solidly consolidated in the director/managers, with one being offsite and never around, and the other two working together. All department heads and supervisors reported to one of the two executives who always discussed everything and preserved a solid front. The employees at the lower levels had a low morale, as there was really nothing to aspire to in terms of promotion beyond the current place and as a result, there was a high turnover. At another place, there was a bit of an organic structure where the boss sought input from everybody. There was no doubt who the boss wasââ¬âshe owned the companyââ¬âbut everyone had a feeling of potential power when it came to important concepts because her management style was inclusive and non-threatening. Attorneys contribute a lot to the criminal justice system; if fact, were it not for attorneys the argument could be made that there would be no system. In the American criminal justice system (adversarial), two parties are represented by an

Chinatown Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Chinatown - Essay Example Good investigators avoid jumping to conclusions and do not consider face value as the actual perception of the person under observation. In the whole movie one could gauge that Jack kept on concluding his analysis all too very quick. And much to his dismay all his findings were wrong, the result of such assumptions can be attributed to his un-composed and unsteady temperament. Jack lacked the required amount of self confidence for his particular field. The past experience can be held responsible for the low self confidence. One can guess that betrayal and unsuccessful career as a police officer has conditioned him to suspect the same in his job as a private investigator. The field of PI (private investigation) requires strong logical thinking and analysis. The domain of logical thinking is one of the innate characteristics of the private investigator. Jackââ¬â¢s logical thinking was weak as scene throughout the movie. He could not make out the relationships between the characters of his case and at times had to use force to take information out from the client. Like the instance when he repeatedly slapped Evelyn to find out about her sister. A good investigator interchanges his logical and creative thinking to come to a sound conclusion and as Jack was very straight forward by nature he could not figure out the tangled issues of the case and this was one of the reasons for his failure. Another pre-requisite for a good private investigator is the technical expertise and experience. When Jack received the case from the bogus Evelyn he was rather new to the field of investigation and therefore could not differentiate the fake Evelyn from the actual one. Good investigators perform background check before taking on an assignment so that they are sure that their client is real and that case is authentic. In Jakeââ¬â¢s case the plot was dicey as the Mrs. Evelyn who came for marital surveillance of her husband Mulwray was not the real Mrs. Evelyn Mulwray. But Jac k took the case and started the search for Mulwray only to find him dead and ended up suspecting the wrong convict. Jack lacked the experience and knowledge for solving the case, due to this he was set up in a plot by the person who wanted to search for Mulwray. So instead of putting others in a setup he became a victim himself. In the investigation field the cases can be divided into three categories: neighborhood assignment, social assignment and work assignment. In the neighborhood assignments the investigator becomes a part of the clientââ¬â¢s neighborhood and observes to solve the case. In social assignment the investigator follows the suspect around the social settings of pubs, markets and other public places. Work assignments are office related and pertain to the office environment and its surroundings. Jackââ¬â¢s case was a hybrid of neighborhood and social assignment. When Jake and Evelyn went to the posh locality, they disguised themselves as one of them to get in. A lso Jake followed Mulwray to find out about his girlfriend only later we came to know that she was Evelynââ¬â¢s sister. The lack of experience led Jack to conclude that the girlfriend had

External and Internal Environments Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
External and Internal Environments - Term Paper Example This also indicated that this firm is the 14th most profitable when compared with many other firms of its size (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). Upon considering further metrics, Forbes Global 2000 ranked General Electrics as the third largest company in the world. This paper seeks to discuss the internal and external environments of General Electrics Company. Segments of the general environment The general environment revolves around every condition in the outside or external environment, which is part of a background context of a managerial decision-making. In simple terms, the general environment of an organization is generally the outer layer that widely affects the organization indirectly and in many ways (Heide, 2008). Typically, environmental issues that may affect an organization consist of the social cultural conditions, economic conditions, technological conditions, political and legal conditions and demographic conditions. With reference to the General Electrics Company, two segments of the general environment would rank highest in their influence on this corporation. They are technological conditions and economic conditions (Griffin, 2012). Particularly, every company that chooses to invest heavily in technological advancements stands to benefit a lot especially when it outshines its competitors. General Electronics deals with products and services wherein technology plays a huge role in their success or failure. For instance, General Electrics offers healthcare products (P&Ls) for surgical operations (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). In this business, General Electrics offers a market-leading healthcare in interventional imaging and intra-operative that facilitates guidance for minimal invasive surgical procedures. Imaging products for surgery are integral in more than one sector as they are also pragmatic in other fields, which include orthopedics, general surgery, neurosurgery, cardiology, urology, GI and for specified processes such as management of pain (Heide, 2008 ). Indeed, technological conditions rank highest in its influence on the General Electrics operations. This is so because the world is today flooding with different ways of meeting the same goal but with different means indicating that technology is playing a huge role in influencing the functioning of many corporations (Ireland, Hoskisson, R. & Hitt, 2008). Economic conditions would also rank highest in their influence on the General Electrics provision of services since economic conditions change with time. Profoundly, a companyââ¬â¢s performance and operations depend highly on the economic conditions of the time (Ireland, Hoskisson, R. & Hitt, 2008). Economic conditions would rank highest in influencing the operations and performance of this corporation because uncertainty regarding current global economic status poses great risk as its core consumers may continue postponing their spending decisions (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). This could be in response to negative financial news, u nemployment, tighter credit and/or deterioration of the asset or income values. Hence, economic conditions would rank highest in influencing the service provision of this corporation given such uncertainties could cause material negative effects on demand of the companyââ¬â¢s products and services (Griffin, 2012). General environmental factors like the economic conditions and technological state have a heightened rank in the operations an
